A organic and bold turquoise and silver ring. This is an example of Native jewellery where the stone dictates the construction of the ring. The stone has been hand selected by the artisan and then the ring has been constructed around its natural, organic shape. The shank that holds the impressive center stone is a very clean band with a small channel worked into its center. There is then a hand made frame that has been hand engraveed all along its edge with lines that help being the setting edge close to the stone, as well as providing this interesting ribbed edge.
The stone is an American mined piece of turquoise with large swathes of which create this unique 'fingerprint' to the stone. It is clear to see the metal deposits in the stone when the light catches it. Turquoise rough commonly contains matrix, patches or veins of the host rock in which it formed, such as chalcedony, opal, brown limonite, black chert, or white kaolinite. Lapidaries frequently cut this brownish or black matrix material along with the turquoise to create appealing color contrasts and patterns. This can be seen here where this chalcedony is coursing through the stone.
The ring is handmade in American made by members of the Navajo Native American tribe, dating circa 1970's. It is unsigned. The ring is a size 11.5, but can be sized, within reason, if desired.
